I create abstract paintings which are joyful, layered and thought provoking

I’m an abstract painter working from my studio in Warwickshire, creating paintings which are joyful, layered and thought provoking.

I often include mixed media elements in my paintings to build up layers of marks and texture, obscuring and revealing, to create an evocative, multi-layered surface like the patina on an old boat, or a building facade layered with posters and graffiti. Inspiration for my paintings could come from a landscape, a map, a film, a conversation, or an old building.

I’m also fascinated by the use of codes, such as the ones and zeros of binary code, and particularly the interface between computer code and humans with all our non-binary emotions.

Through the use of paint, drawing and mark-making I enjoy exploring ideas of the binary, interacting with the non-binary, such as the human hand with all its capacity for mistakes, spills and serendipity.
