My focus is illustrating British wildlife, being inspired by the beautiful countryside around me

Bio

I am a local illustrator, living and working in Chipping Campden. I graduated from Hereford College of arts with a BA (HONS) Degree in Illustration back in 2014. Moving to Hereford was the first time I had lived around incredible countryside with wonderful views and rich with wildlife.

My main focus is illustrating British wildlife, being inspired by the beautiful countryside around me. I work traditionally, by hand using old techniques such as coffee staining. I also use a lot of watercolour and fine liners to add more layers and definition to each piece.

I try to portray as much emotion in each ‘character’ as possible, and find that constantly listening to music I love whilst working enables me to do that.

I feel my work has a slightly dark edge (so all of my tutors told me throughout my education) and I think that’s mostly down to the materials I use with the dark coffee stain and inks working together with limited colour to create something that perhaps has a certain mood about it.

I have also started undertaking some work within the children’s book industry, which is very enjoyable. It’s sometimes great to have a brief given to you that you have to work around, and very rewarding when the client is happy and have a story, which they have written come to life.

My style is quite expressive, as I tend to work quite quickly when I am focussed on a piece. I absolutely love drawing animals, it’s a passion, and I feel very lucky that my career is starting to grow using skills in what I love to do!
