Drawing inspiration from the natural world to create handmade felted works of art

Bio

Felted sculptural homewares, inspired by natural textures, combining wool and light.

Under the name of Felti, Sarah Leigh draws inspiration from the natural world to create handmade felted works of lighting and unique interior decor.

I’m one of those nature loving kids who’s all grown up now. I still run through fields and hang out in trees (with a couple of gorgeous kids in tow), but now it’s with a camera in hand to photograph the texture of bark or sun dappled leaf canopies and pockets full of seedpods and feathery inspiration.

I discovered felt making nearly 10 years ago and spent the first few years experimenting with the medium and countless different wool fibres and techniques. One summer’s day, one of those rare ones when the sun shone brightly, I held up a sample piece to the window and in a heartbeat was captivated by the light radiating through the fibres, revealing nuances and depths of texture.

That was my epiphany moment – from there on my practice was all about wool and light. This has translated into a variety of lampshade styles, strung lights and illuminated pods and vessels. I love what I do, and I hope you will too.

Bespoke commissions welcome.
