Weaver and textile designer Theo Wright makes handwoven scarves in natural fibres
Theo Wright is a weaver and textile designer who makes handwoven scarves for men and women in natural fibres: silk, cotton, linen and lambswool.
Originally trained as a computer scientist, he worked in software development and technology research. In the late 1990s he started to develop an interest in textiles while travelling in the Middle East and Asia, and learned the basics of weaving on his return. His interest grew and he eventually studied for a BA in Textile Design at University College Falmouth, where he graduated with a first in 2011.
Since then he has woven scarves for sale, creating designs that explore pattern, contrast and colour. Each scarf is designed and individually handwoven by Theo at his studio in Coventry.
In 2014, Theo was a participant in the Crafts Council’s prestigious Hothouse programme and started making collections of larger wall-mounted textile artworks based on ideas in mathematics and science with support from Arts Council England.
