Ilona has had a love of painting from an early age, constantly gaining inspiration from the beauty of the natural world around her. Being half Finnish has been a major influence on her work.
As a young child, she experienced the icy cold snowy winters and long dark nights of Christmases in Finland. These contrasted dramatically with the light skies of summer nights spent on the family island in rural Finland. This triggered her passion for the vibrant beauty of nature and vast, remote landscapes.
Ilona studied for both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Fine Art at the University of the West of England, Bristol. She has exhibited at numerous exhibitions as well as producing private commissions.
She currently works in oils as the rich depths of colour enhance the beauty of her chosen subject matter of flowers, trees, plants and nature. Ilona has always enjoyed experimenting with the processes of painting and she embraces the results that this can create.
Ilona currently lives and works in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire.
